The finished radio drama

So we have finally finished the radio drama ‘Love Game’ and it has been a very chaotic few weeks and have definitely been kept busy with tweaking the final touches of the production.

During this production I took the role of director which consisted of gathering actors, which was one of the hardest aspects of the production due to finding the right voice for the right character as well as allowing time for the actors etc, we found this especially challenging as every actor we found was busy. We advertised our radio drama through Facebook groups such as the Drama society and as well as others like the Lincoln school of media page. After searching for about a week Ben our BA managed to find some people he knew that were happy to act in the piece, after rehearsals with these people we thought that they suited the characters and recording could finally get started!

I learnt a lot from making this radio drama, as a director and as a team as well, I have learnt how to manage and direct actors professionally as well as give tips and ideas on how to read specific dialogue in order to portray it differently. I have also learnt how to use various microphones and how to set these up in order to record the best audio possibly. In terms of editing I thought the entire process went quite well, the sounds that were acquired were fairly basic like the shutting of a door, the knocking of a door, keys unlocking etc. The main criticism I have of the edit is the lack of creativity with the wild tracks that were used for the majority of the scenes. I think what could have been improved was the interrogation scene, we could have been more creative and added more sounds in order to give it depth and seem more realistic and not in a recording studio.

Overall I felt that the production went very well although a few problems these were easily overcome, the drama sounded clear and professional, the actors could have been better but that is something I know I will need to look for earlier if I were to do this again, as well as adding more wild tracks to make the piece stand out.

Here is the final radio drama.

After The Show.

So I have finished my second show and it went great, only a few little mistakes but these were not crucial and I am very happy with the show as a whole. The show went very well and it all flowed nicely, especially the interviews as there were a few problems with audio during the show but this would have been not heard by listeners as it was only a slight mistake.

With regards to multi platform I did not have any problems but one thing I could have improved on was advertising the show more in order to get a wider audience as I did not get any tweets or questions in from listeners to ask the presenters and interviewee’s, I did promote the show a lot with daily tweets on twitter as well as on the Facebook page but this did not attract questions.

At the start of meetings and planning for the show we found it hard to come up with possible interviews one reason being that there had been a lot of Lend me your ears shows already and it was getting to the stage where people started to appear more than once. This is why we wanted to find the right people to interview, but after a couple of meetings we decided on getting someone in that works with sound in order to tell us more about the importance of it, also in keeping with the topic of radio dramas.

The Future Of Radio Drama

So its been a few days since the last post but I have been very busy with the next Lend me your ears show, this weeks show is all about the future of radio drama presented by Brittany Devine and Lucy Davies. We will be joined by guests Ross Garrigan, Tim Johns and live in the studio Chris Hainstock who is a senior lecturer here at the university of Lincoln.

I took the role of multi platform for this weeks show this involved me creating a trailer with the presenters for the show as well as writing a blog entry onto the Lend me your ears blog. I found doing multi platform was straight forward and perhaps a easier role to presenting with regards to the weekly shows but I still found the whole process exciting and it was fairly new to me. I thought the process of making this show went very well and we were well prepared for the show, we did have a few problems with the audio but this was easily fixed.
